Both obligatory and awkward, the introduction is really just a formal “hello” or “welcome.” If it is too perfect, it will only over-inflate expectations and leave little room for anything more nuanced and perhaps profound to develop. What a pity to read the introduction of introductions only to feel as though nothing could be better, or summarized more eloquently. Why continue reading (or getting to know each other)? I always hated beginning journals as a kid, and rarely made it past a few entries. It is amazing how self conscious we can be around ourselves. Perhaps that is one of the reasons so many of our endeavors are collecting dust in hypothetical (or actual) attics, or a variety of creative purgatories. However, if there ever was a place to awkwardly ramble, I cannot imagine one better than the first entry of a blog with no followers. If you have made it here, please take a look at the “about” page as well as “To Be Continued (at the Point of Abandon),” They are the beginning of this project, the “guts” that will provoke more pointed future entries to follow soon. Until then………..
